What is SF6 gas?

Pure SF6 (Sulfure hexafluoride) gas is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic gas with a negative charge. The molecular structure consists of one sulfur atom (S) bonded to six fluorine atoms (F). At room temperature, SF6 does not react with other substances. Make it chemically “inert”.

Sulfur hexafluoride is more than five times heavier than air. If it is allowed to escape into the atmosphere, its global warming effect is huge. Approximately 22,000 times the equivalent amount of CO2. In other words, to escape one kilogram of Sulfur hexafluoride causes the same effect as 22 tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere. And so the European Commission introduced EC Regulation No 842/2006. Where it is required that the sulfur hexafluoride gas in the high-pressure switchgear be recovered. Withdrawals must be performed by trained and certified personnel. Minimizing the loss of Sulfur hexafluoride to the atmosphere is very important in fulfilling the obligation to protect the environment.

Buying used SF6 gas

Reason: SF6 gas is used for insulation (in medium and high voltage switchgear, GIS station), this gas is not discharged into the environment, due to the greenhouse effect. After a period of use, it needs to be changed (such as motorcycle and car oil), due to high humidity and loss of purity.

Usually initially 99.9995% pure quality, then reduced to less than 99%, not guaranteeing switching safety

When replacing stations, changing stations, repairing switchgear, because the pressure drops below the regulations, it is necessary to suck out, store or process, filter to return (revert) 99.99% quality.
